The Fibonacci spiral


I've come to the stage in my future life project where i need to think about producing scale drawings of the structure i have designed. My mum is a maths teacher and reminded me of the fibonacci spiral and that it might help me to produce a perfect spiral.

The fibonacci sequence is as follows-

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55 and so on...

This is reached by adding the first two numbers to get the third, the second and third to get the fourth, the third and fourth to get the fifth etc....


1

1+1 =2
1+2=3
2+3=5
3+5=8
5+8=13
and so on......

So when u arrange a series of squares like this with these lengths, you get the perfect spiral!

Bathroom design competition

Earlier on in my blog i mentioned a competition to design a bathroom for a local celebrity in association with Hargreaves bathrooms in Burnley. The celebrity i chose was Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle. Here is where i am up to in the design process before presenting next week;

I've created two visuals to represent both sides of the room. The shapes in the room reflect those that a gymnast would make- sleek and curved. I wanted something that was chic, glamorous and sophisticated to reflect Beth's glamorous side outside of her sporting career...

Honours project site survey

I've used photoshop to apply a range of textures and add an image in the background. I've used brush tools to add certain effects and a watercolour filter on the brick.

Rendering

A couple of weeks ago I had a go at rendering for the first time. I saw a great example of rendering in this month's Blueprint magazine...



These are Wilkinson Eyre's plans for development of the Wellcome Collection. I love how every interior space has been rendered to show its use, the space has been occupied by people and furniture and the walls are clear in bold black. I also like how the outside space is represented, It shows it's use too without detracting away from the main design with it being in grey.

Rendering


Here is my first attempt at rendering a section drawing...

The building I have rendered is the one I have chosen to do my honors project on- the water tower in Ormskirk.




Hargreaves Bathrooms

We have received a brief for a competition called 'Bath to the future' The competition is for hargreaves bathrooms. We are to design a bathroom of the future for a North West celebrity. You can take a practical approach to the project or a conceptual one. The practical approach would be using fixtures and fittings from suppliers and the conceptual would be more of a fantasy design. 

My chosen celebrity is Beth Tweddle, an Olympic Gymnast.

Here is my client board.



I love the shapes Beth makes as a gymnast. Elegant smooth sweeps and curves. I'd like to replicate these in my design along with a touch of glamour. I'd also like to add in some technology that would benefit Beth as an athlete. Things like a toilet that tests your urine and tells you what you are deficient in, and then gives advice on how to then correct this. A bath that massages you... here is my mood board...



Ive taken some of these ideas and used the plan view cad plans to do some overlay drawings...



I now need to put these ideas into a 3D visual.
